Canal Closure and Works
The Canal and Riverside Trust have drained the canal so repairs
can be done to the walls. We are taking this opportunity to attempt to remove
all the rubbish on the canal bed. The contractors will assess the
state of the canal bed, then if all is well we can plan a series of events to
clear the rubbish. Some will be corporate events, and some will be open to
residents and our usual volunteers. We should have some dates by next week, so
I will forward the dates as soon as I have them. We are also meeting wild
flower experts to plan the land based planting, again will keep you posted on
dates.

Big Neghbourhood Picnic and Quiz night
Linda and Annie at the GUPRA Big Neighbourhood picnic.
A big thank you to all who helped and those of you who supported the GUPRA Big Neighbourhood picnic on 12th July. All who came seemed to enjoy the day and the good weather helped a lot. Thanks to Joe for bringing 'Annie' and 'Sid', the two Harris Hawks who were a big hit with children and adults alike. Thanks to the generosity of folks who provided things for the day we raised £96.
The quiz night at the Ship was also a success and an enjoyable evening for all those who went. You raised £46 which was added to GUPRA funds. Thank you.
These monies will go toward other events in the future and anyone who has any ideas of what they would like to see please do let us know.
Thanks
Margaret

Gray Court Underground Car Park (Update)
Dear Residents,
We can confirm that ground works were carried out in the underground car park in March 2014. The works involved installing a new soak away channel which will help direct the flow of any excess water to the main drain pump. These works are now complete and the excess the water has been cleared.
East Thames will monitor the car park drains to determine whether these additional works have resolved the flooding issue at the car park.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to many of the car park users and thank you for your patience throughout the past few months.
CURRENT PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
As from Friday 25th April 2014 – Vehicles should no longer be parking in the shared courtyard area without displaying a yellow visitor permit. Underground East Thames permits are no longer valid in the courtyard.
Vehicles which are not displaying valid yellow visitor permit will receive a penalty charge notice!
Please can All car park users return their vehicles to the underground car park with immediate effect of this notice. Please can residents who either own or rent a parking bay ensure that you display your East Thames parking bay permits in your vehicle window at all times.
Thank You

Notes for calling Security
As most of you know, we have a Safer Neighbourhood Team in place on our area, for which Bernard Hazell is the Resident's Co-ordinator.
Unfortunately, and to resident's frustration, they are very much under-funded and under-staffed and no longer the rapid response unit we initially grew accustomed with.
Currently, a private Security Service, Enigma, patrols the estate on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays between 12pm- 11pm. They are contracted until the end of March.
However, East Homes had agreed to pay for this service until all the gates and shutters are in working order, which is not case at the moment. GUPRA is in negotiations at the moment with EH hoping to renew its commitment.
We are hopeful that this service will be extended until such time the gates/shutters are all effective. As it is, there are at present pockets of ASB still blighting some areas of our estate.
Should you need the Security's assistance you can find them based at the Harford Street Multi Centre 115 Harford St, E1 4SG, next to the Green Light pharmacy and the GP surgery.
Alternatively, and to enable us to report incidents of Anti Social Behaviour on GUP, East Homes has supplied the patrolling team with a pay as you go mobile phone where they can be contacted and informed.
So during the above mentioned days and between these times you can contact them directly on 07511 615 332 to report a problem to the team.
I trust that you will use this number wisely especially when the situation merits the security's presence.
However, it is important that we still report any continuous Anti Social Behaviour to the Safer Neighbourhood Team at 020 8721 2808 in order for them to be able to act on any persistent nuisance.
Please make a note of all these times and numbers and keep them handy, and remember that for emergencies dial 999 or for non-emergencies call 101(for non-emergencies & to report a crime, which has already taken place)
